Bamford Ward Councillors Update - Winter 25/26

Cllr's Angela Smith, Phil Beal, and Steve Anstee

As this is being written, it is a beautiful, sunny winter`s day and the temperature this morning was -5 degrees, with snow forecast during the week. Thanks to our Highways officers who have kept our main roads gritted over Christmas and New Year, often going out twice a day and always keeping us informed of what they are doing.

Following our monthly meetings with Estates, Planning and Legal departments regarding ongoing problems at the High Birch development site, we were pleased that some problem trees were cut down or back before Christmas and that more will be done in the New Year. A great relief for nearby residents who asked for our help.

Together with our Community Police Officers we held a “pop up” surgery at Bamford Chapel in December, which was well attended.  Two more surgeries are planned; 27th February 12.30-1.30pm at Bamford Barrista and  20th March 12 -1pm  at Tesco Bamford. We are also planning to hold a Police and Councillor Forum at Brimrod Methodist in March, date to be confirmed. We are keen to continue the Forums and will try to alternate between Bamford Chapel and Brimrod Methodist Church.

“Carols on the Green” was held again in December and in spite of very wet weather was well attended by our community. Once again we funded the large gazebos, lighting and the sound system which meant that at least Littleborough Brass Band and those volunteers serving refreshments were warm and dry! Thanks to Friends of Bamford for organising this event and to Father Christmas for taking the time to come along.

The parking scheme around Oulder Hill was approved at our last Township meeting and we are expecting this to start before long.  We have also invested some of our ward funds in other areas, particularly where double yellow lines are needed to protect junctions.  Worsdworth Way, between War Office Rd and Bamford Way will also be resurfaced during the summer, which is very good news.

As always, we are pleased to hear from you or meet you at any time, and our regular surgeries are held on the first Thursday of each month; 10am at Bamford Chapel and 11.15 at Brimrod.
